城堡中探尋天使的存在：

“你是天使-我是天使”范婭萍大型裝置作品展將于2016年10月25日在北京財富城堡開幕，展期為10月25至11月25日。本次展覽是范婭萍天使計劃國際巡展的第一站，之后將會在英國和意大利等地的老城堡陸續(xù)呈現(xiàn)。此次巡展將與眾不同的將城堡建筑與范婭萍的裝置藝術(shù)融為一體，因此此次展覽除了對室內(nèi)空間的精致營造外，在室外部分也將邀請觀眾踏上一條探尋之旅，在藝術(shù)的花園中探尋天使的存在。

Fan Yaping's solo exhibition "I am an Angel - You are an Angel" will open on October 25, 2016 at Fortune Mansion, Beijing. The exhibition will be held from October 25 to November 24, 2016. Fortune Mansion is the first station of the artist's Angel Art Project which will be a global-traveling exhibition. The project will be showing in the historical castles in Europe in future. In this exhibition, Fan's artworks will be presented in the unique architectural surroundings, thus to create not only a finely constructed indoor art show but also to invite visitors on a journey of seeking and exploring the existence of "angels" in the Fortune Mansion's garden area.

2014年我訪問了范婭萍工作室，當時，我遇見了一位用裝置、油畫和視頻等方式，在此不同尋常的維度下來創(chuàng)建屬于她自己世界的藝術(shù)家。 通過兩年來不斷的交流，我們覺得應(yīng)該合作策劃一場更為劇場式的裝置作品展，它一定要區(qū)分于尋常的、在一個“白盒子”式展廳中的展覽，而是放在一個適合范婭萍的作品、有個性的并且別具風(fēng)格的建筑里。我們將以一個“旅程”或是“夢境”的方式展開這個展覽，并邀請觀眾身臨其境來探索作品的奧秘。 于是，此次《我是天使 – 你是天使》展覽將設(shè)在北京優(yōu)雅的、法國文藝復(fù)興式的財富城堡里。這次展覽將會是一次創(chuàng)意性合作的結(jié)晶，它將圍繞范婭萍個人成長和想象的創(chuàng)新性藝術(shù)觀念，營造出壯麗而奇妙、魔幻又超現(xiàn)實的藝術(shù)景象。

范婭萍用孩童玩偶的圖像作為純真和天使變幻的一個標志。這反映了玩偶這一圖像在藝術(shù)史中作為一個標志對象，可以被分解、安撫、操控或者轉(zhuǎn)變，并能在更廣泛社會中體現(xiàn)出情感的進化和轉(zhuǎn)化。

1881年歐洲，作家E.T.A.霍夫曼的系列小說激發(fā)了法國作曲家雅克·奧芬巴赫創(chuàng)作著名的浪漫主義歌劇《霍夫曼的故事》，其講述男主人公被一個實為機械玩偶的美麗女子奧林匹亞所迷惑。在19世紀末的歐洲北部，浪漫主義藝術(shù)運動的誕生成為了對工業(yè)革命的回應(yīng)，相較于理性的、科學(xué)的和工業(yè)的新世界，其更著重宣揚個體和情感。奧林匹亞這個角色在奧芬巴赫的歌劇里是一個隱喻，更可能是一個警示，提醒當我們周圍的世界在改變和快速發(fā)展時，我們的本能是如何被工業(yè)技術(shù)誘引以及對此信服的。自《霍夫曼的故事》首演以來的近140年后，范婭萍的油畫作品、雕塑和裝置在一個有探索性的、如戲劇舞臺的展覽之中對這出著名歌劇的主題做出了回響。她標志性的孩子玩偶的圖像將我們所熟識的出生、童年、戲劇以及美的概念鋪陳開來，卻帶領(lǐng)我們走上一條更隱秘的、對照夢境、臆想，甚至死亡為主題的旅程。范婭萍是一個能將我們的想象力帶出現(xiàn)實世界–被科技所操控的當代生活，至另一個世界的藝術(shù)家。在這個世界里，我們可能在熟悉的、童年的表現(xiàn)形式下乍感“安全”，但隨后發(fā)覺我們的設(shè)想遭遇了挑戰(zhàn)，即舒適的圖像變成了一出逼迫性的夢魘，亦或是變成了一場天使般的白日夢？

When I first visited the studio of Fan Yaping in 2014 I encountered an artist creating her own world within an extraordinary range of installations, paintings and videos and I felt that rather than a formal exhibition in a ‘white box’ gallery we should work together to curate a more ‘theatrical’ installation in a building that has the character and style to match Fan Ya Pings artwork, and that we should think of the exhibition as a ‘journey’ or ‘dream’ for visitors to explore. The exhibition ‘I am an Angel-You are an Angel’ within the elegant French Renaissance style of the Fortune Club in Beijing is the result of our creative collaboration and aims to be epic and curious, magical and otherworldly and to present Fan Yaping’s creative ideas around personal growth and imagination with a fascinating series of installations to be explored throughout the building.

Fan Yaping uses a child’s doll image as a symbol of innocence or angelic transformation, which reflects its use in art history where the doll image has been an icon that can be shattered, comforted, manipulated or transformed to represent emotional evolution or changes in the wider society.

In 1881 in Europe stories by E.T.A Hoffman, inspired French composer Jacques Offenbach to write the famous romantic opera ‘Tales of Hoffman’ – a story where the leading man is bewitched by ‘Olympia’ a beautiful woman who is actually a robotic doll. In northern Europe in the late 1800’s the Romanticism Art Movement was a reaction to the industrial revolution – it emphasized the individual and the emotional over the new world of rational ideas, science and industry. The ‘Olympia’ character in Offenbach’s opera is a metaphor and maybe a warning for how our instincts can be seduced and convinced by technology when the world around us is changing and developing so quickly. Nearly 140 years later from the first performance of the Tales of Hoffman, Fan Yaping’s paintings, sculpture and installations echo the themes of the opera within an exhibition that can be explored like a theatrical stage set. Her symbolic use of the child’s doll image spans familiar ideas of birth, childhood, play and beauty but takes us on a journey contrasted with more esoteric themes of dreams, imagination and even death. Fan Yaping is an artist who can take our imaginations beyond the reality of our technology driven contemporary lives into another world, where we may feel ‘safe’ with familiar representations of childhood but then find our assumptions challenged when images of comfort become a menacing nightmare or an angelic daydream?
